Many people ask us how Grace Elizabeth’s Bed & Breakfast came about so in this series I will submit four posts walking you through the process.
Series: The Birth of Grace Elizabeth’s Bed and Breakfast
THE PURCHASE (#1 in a series of 4)
Have you ever had a dream and said “that would be nice to do in our retirement”? Since our marriage in 1983, Rick and I have loved staying in numerous Bed and Breakfasts across the state and country and had always thought it would be fun to run one. You get to live in a beautiful house on a luscious property. The people you meet will be from all over the world telling stories to cherish and oh, the friendships that will develop…
In the summer of 2005 we thought we had found the property to do just that, in retirement. It was a stately Georgian pillared house situated on 3+ acres with a barn and several other buildings. And guess what, it used to be a bed and breakfast in the 1980’s.
We took the plunge and moved our girls to Minden, NE, home of the internationally known Harold Warp’s Pioneer Village and the state’s most impressive small town art center the Minden Opera House and the adventure began.
