I was reading in the scriptures today in prep for my weekly bible study. Psalms 32:3-4 says: “When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer.” The study book asks – Have you ever experienced the type of intense conviction over your sin that David describes in verses 3-4? Describe what that experience felt like. Wow, yes I have and let me tell you, it is heart wrenching. It is emotionally and physically debilitating. I literally was unable to perform my daily tasks for a couple of days. Sin truly can grab a hold and take you in a downward spiral.
David’s Psalm however does not stop there. Verses 5-6 tell us of the Lords love for us. “I acknowledged my sin to Thee, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord’; And Thou didst forgive the guilt of my sin.” Praise God for his forgiveness and salvation!
“The word rendered forgiven is, in the original, ‘taken off,’ or ‘taken away,’ as a burden is lifted or a barrier removed. What a lift is here! It cost our Savior a sweat of blood to bear our load, yea, it cost Him His life to bear it quite away.” – Charles H. Spurgeon
My advice for the day would be to acknowledge and confess your sin to the god who is willing and able to forgive, the great I Am. “He who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him.” Psalm 32:10
